Stephen has toured Europe twice, has played across the United States from North by Northwest (Seattle, Washington) to South by Southwest (Austin, Texas), and has appeared on The Mountain Stage for PBS as well as numerous other radio programs.
Stephen Yerkey has an astounding voice. Sometimes it soars like Scott Walker's, other times it growls like John Lee Hooker's, at times it preaches like Johnny Cash's. He is an amazing songwriter, too.
Yerkey was born in Welch, West Virginia and grew up in, among other places, St. Louis, Missouri, Covington, Kentucky, and Detroit, Michigan. He began playing guitar at the age of 14, at which time he discovered Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones, and started developing his own unique style.
Since 2002, Yerkey has released the album, 'Metaneonatureboy' on the Echo label, toured Europe and the U.S. repeatedly, being featured coast to coast from the finest showcases in the New York City to the Fillmore in San Francisco.
He is showcased on National Pubic Radio from Los Angeles' 'Morning Becomes Eclectic' to West Virginia's 'Mountain Stage Live!'
His music has also been featured in videos like, 'Driver: San Francisco' and feature films like, 'Lewis And Clark And George'.
His music has been covered by several artists including the title song from Kelly Willis' Rykodisc release, 'Translated From Love', and is currently in pre-production on Broadway in the production of 'Temple Beautiful', Chuck Prophet's homage to San Francisco.
